Unfortunately for us, Ableton can’t directly send MIDI show control messages. In this tutorial, we’re simply going to be sending a “go” command for a specific cue/cuelist combination which will tell Jands Vista to “play” the cue at that time. * Data: The data included in an MSC SysEx message includes the target cue, cue list, and cue path. ![]() Essentially this is what the target device should do with the message * Command: This can be something like “go”, “go stop” and others. * Device ID: This identifies the target device for the message MIDI show control is simply a special reserved MIDI SysEx message that includes the following important parameters: In my opinion, timecode-based solutions work great when you have a set show, while MSC works much better if your sets change frequently, and you want to be able to program and arrange songs individually. Note Spend some time finding the best protocol for your setup. For the purposes of this setup however, we’re going to be using MIDI show control (MSC). Lighting consoles can be remotely controlled via a number of protocols, including SMPTE timecode, Linear Time Code, MIDI Time Code (MTC), and others. ![]() I think it’s important to start with some fundamentals. Okay, let’s get started with a bit of an explanation of how this works, then we’ll get into the how-to of setting it up MIDI Show Control (MSC) Keep in mind that although I’m writing this post specifically for Ableton controlling Jands Vista, a lot of these steps are generic and would work for a wide range of lighting consoles or music software. To achieve this, many shows are now utilizing SMPTE timecode or MIDI control to trigger lighting cue changes from software like Ableton, which allows a show to be entirely pre-programmed fairly easily–timing included. That all sounds great I’m sure, but making it happen can be a bit tricky, so that’s what this post is all about. But getting all those incredible cues to sync perfectly with the song just like you envision can be challenging at best. Seems like original data has been recorded using my old MIDI interface (M-Audio Delta 2496), but since platform change I cannot use it anymore due to lacking of legacy PCI.Building a beautiful light show can be great. Now I've tried to add some data - and noticed this. I must confess I'm a bit surprised as I'm working on some Cubase project and was using Tascam with it from some time, but it was for editing existing data and listening how it sounds like. When I connect keyboard to PC via just USB cable (with USB-MIDI drivers installed), Cubase records/plays data with no issues - but hey, this is a reason why I've grabbed Tascam US-122 MKII: not to mess with too many cables (and USB sockets in PC are limited).īecause I've noticed many (too many) similar reports from US-122 MkII users, my first question would be:ĭoes anyone have US-122 MkII with working MIDI In with Windows 10 圆4 (latest updates) ? Generally whole US-122 MKII works as supposed - plays MIDI, records audio from LineIn sockets, and gives monitoring of MIDI device via Phones (keyboard's Line Out connected to Tascam's LineIn socket) - except that unlucky MIDI In port. I've tried reinstalling drivers - all the time it was installed using "Vista SP1" compatibility option, and device has been detected and installed OK. ![]() So MIDI In data comes to Tascam's processing unit whichever it is - I've just opened up the device looking for any suspected thinghs, but nothing major noticed so far (I can repair just in case) - and it sends appropriate "confirmation message" to user by LED, but apparently nothing comes out via USB.Ĭubase is configured well as well, I know how to record MIDI tracks -) but as said - even MIDI monitoring window is "blind" (however reacts when MIDI Out is engaged). My keyboard is configured well and 100% working, I've checked both MIDI A and MIDI B ports with no luck: transmit Tx data is being shown accordingly to the port number when notes are being played on it, and red LED on Tascam panel (MIDI In) lights up all the time notes are being playing (blinking otherwise = but regarding to manual it is normal when device sends MIDI Active Sensing messages). I've checked it with Cubase - no MIDI In signal in monitor window, and with MIDI-OX: monitoring gives me MIDI Out commands only when playing some virtual keyboard, but remains empty with MIDI In. As per title - this device (second hand purchase, but with no issue reports) seems like not sending MIDI In data to a PC.
